Through globalization western culture has changed in art/expressive cultures. Expressive culture/art has played a part in the helping professions since ancient times. As early as 500 BC, the Egyptians utilized concerts and dance in the treatment of the mentally ill. Likewise, the Greeks used drama as a way of assisting the disturbed in purging their repressed emotions. The Hebrews relied on music, and other arts, in restoring and promoting mental health too, the most famous example being David who played his harp to soothe a distraught King Saul. Literature was seen by the Romans as a specific way of helping too. Lucretius, Roman poet and the author of the philosophical epic De Rerum Natura (On the Nature of the Universe), a comprehensive exposition of the Epicurean world-view, thought poetry could disperse the "terrors of the soul". In recent times, the expressive arts consist of verbal and nonverbal ways of representing feelings, there has been renewed interest in the use of the arts especially art forms that are considered "expressive." Through concrete and abstract verbal and nonverbal art forms that inspire, direct, and heal. For example the guerrilla girls, allowing individuals options in conveying their emotions their arts are used in helping and enabling themselves in a humorous way to make informed decisions and versatility in what they believe in, Feminism. If Winter Comes Can Spring be far behind? – Essay (free to read). This is the last line of Shelley’s famous poem: â€Å"Ode to the West Wind.† The poet depicts the terrible effect of the west wind in different spheres. The line is an epitome of optimism. Though for the present the cold winter be the ruler all around, yet the very approach of winter means the impending arrival of the spring season soon after win-ter. Winter must at last come to an end. It must be followed by the colorful spring which brings colorful flowers and bird’s sweet songs. After all, the circle of seasons must continue moving unhindered. Day is followed by night and night by day. Similarly, in life every period of sorrow and despair has at last to come to end. It is followed by a period of peace, comfort and joy. We must have a firm belief in the good ¬ness of things and have a strong self-confi ¬dence. There is no occasion for feeling dis ¬mayed. â€Å"If hopes are dupes, fears may be liars.† The best attitude in life is that of an optimistic stoic. Joys and sorrows should be treated in their own stride. They should be given equal treatment. Robert Browning w- s a highly optimistic poet. He had another way of looking at things. If he ever had to face failure in life, he consoled himself by telling himself that he will get his reward or success in heaven or in the next life. I get better and better.† Auto Suggestion for a better and happier life is the great art in modern day life which modern psychology has given to us. WEB. Analysis Of The Movie Donnie Darko - 1935 Words

Donnie Darko, set in 1988 in a small town, it was written and directed by Richard Kelly. Donnie Darko was estimated a budget of $4.5million and ended up making $7.7million while it was only filmed in 28 days and was released 280 days later. The film got nominated for many awards while also winning many awards such as best screenplay, the audience award, the special award and the silver screen award. Kelly’s creation symbolises Alice in wonderland with the rabbit that guides Donnie through this mad world. Kelly’s movie is about being in two universes and time travelling from one to one. The explanation of the movie heavily revolves around a book Donnie gets from his teacher, â€Å"The philosophy of time travel† which is fictional. Level 1 The film is about a young emotionally troubled teenager named Donnie Darko. A while before the film is set he burned down a house and in result of that, he has to see a psychiatrist, Dr Thurman. One morning a jet engine falls into Donnie’s room which he accidentally avoids when he sleep walks outside by following a voice in his head which he likes to call him Frank who is in fact a human being dressed as a 6 foot tall rabbit. This is when Donnie has fallen into the tangent universe. The tangent universe is a parallel universe which means it is doomed to end. Frank tells Donnie when the world will end which is exactly 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes and 12 seconds.
